Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his party’s commitment to peaceful elections on December 7, 2024.

In a meeting with the West African Elders Forum, led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on October 7, Mahama stressed the importance of collaboration between the Electoral Commission and political stakeholders to ensure transparency.

Having just returned from a campaign in the Savannah Region, Mahama commended the Forum’s efforts in promoting peace and preventing election-related conflicts, citing his own experience leading their mission during Nigeria’s recent elections.

“Since 2020, the Forum has been working to help prevent conflict arising mainly from elections in the subregion. This initiative is commendable and very useful, and I had the privilege of leading the Forum’s mission to the recent Nigerian election,” he stated.

The former president stressed that the responsibility for peaceful and fair elections rests not only with political parties but also with the Electoral Commission and other relevant bodies.

He called for increased transparency and urged all stakeholders to prioritize fairness as the general elections approach.

“We are committed to a peaceful election and and we believe that if we corporate with each other, especially with the EC that is supposed to be neutral habitat we should be able to get it right again” he emphasized.
