The Accra Metropolitan Assembly in a joint effort with DasBiogas has officially launched a state of the art biogas plant to transform energy generation for Ghanaian homes and businesses through sustainable waste development.

The commissioning themed, ‘Powering Business and Homes Through Organic Waste To Energy Real and Technical insight’ which was held today, October, 18, 2024 at the Omanye Aba Hall of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, saw stakeholders which included government officials, business leaders, real estate developers, market executives, municipal representatives and a number of bio gas home users to witness the commissioning of Das Biogas plant.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister For Energy invited as key guest speaker, Finance Coordinator at the Ministry For Energy, Mr. Ali Nuhu Abeka noted that he looks forward to a future where Ghana expands the potential of renewable energy which include solar, wind and biogas to account for at least 10% of Ghana’s energy consumption. “The Ministry of Energy through its renewable energy master plan envisions a future where renewables including solar, wind and biogas will account for at least 10% of total energy consumption by 2030. Today’s launch is a clear example of what is possible when the public and private sectors work hand in hand to bring practical energy solutions to life.” Mr. Abeka said in his remarks regarding the energy product.

The Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Sackey, indicated that this feat made with biogas is a merit the entire nation can share. She said that the initiative by DasBiogas was embraced by the AMA as it aligns with the Assembly’s 6 –year plan – Climate Action for 2020 – 2025 Plan particularly a priority action which emphasizes on separation of dry and wet waste. “The plant is capable of processing up to 180 tons of organic waste daily significantly reducing large volumes of organic waste to landfills and as a result mitigating harmful gas emissions.” she revealed.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DasBiogas, Enoch Boadu indicated that the commissioning marks a significant step to development in the energy sector. He added that DasBiogas’ commitment to offering every household and business the opportunity to turn organic waste into clean, affordable energy is made possible by this modern product. Mr. Enoch Boadu tagged the product as a sure solution to waste management and reliable access to energy. “This event is more than just a product launch; it is a celebration of the innovation and perseverance that have brought us to this point; The system we are commissioning today is the culmination of years of research development, and collaboration, and it directly addresses two critical issues; waste management and reliable access to energy.”

The event also involved a panel discussion to deliberate on the benefits of DasBiogas featuring panelists as users of biogas and key knowledge about the environment the panelists included, Chief Executive Officer of JOHNKNIGHT GROUP, Ellen Yeboah; Distribution Manager, Augustus Antobam; Professor of Law at Lancaster university, Prof Francis Botchway; Head of Waste Management Department of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Solomon Noi (Ing); Senior Research Scientist CSIR, Dr. Kofi ampomah –Benefo.

After a practical presentation of the new product from reps of DasBiogas, patrons were led to the forecourt of the Omane Aba Hall of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly office for commissioning of the Biogas system duly supervised by the Mayor of Accra.
