The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for both private and basic school candidates who sat for the BECE 2024.

The examination supervision body in a release indicated that a total of 569,236 candidates, comprising 282,703 males and 286,533 females from nineteen thousand, five hundred and five (19,505) participating schools entered for the school examination. WAEC revealed that there were several cases of irregularity detected during the conduct of the examination and marking of scripts. The Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE at its 35th Meeting held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 – in light of this, cancelled subject results of 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates for the offence of bringing foreign materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates; cancelled entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate; withheld entire results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates.

The council, in the release signed by Head of Public Affairs at the WAEC Head National Office, J.K Kapi added that subject results of some 149 schools have been withheld on account of ongoing investigations for reported irregularities. The release of these results will depend on the outcome of the investigations which are being carried out presently.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) expresses its appreciation to stakeholders especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners and all who in diverse ways supported it in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
