Residents of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region have expressed concern over the closure of the Circuit, District and High Courts in Bolgatanga due to the ongoing conflict.

The shutdown, ordered by the Chief Justice as a response to security risks posed by the ongoing Bawku conflict, has extended to include courts in Zuarungu, Zebila, Garu, and Bongo.

While the Ghana Bar Association backs this precautionary decision, many community members are calling for a swift reversal, worried that extended closure could severely hinder access to justice. According to residents, the disruption poses challenges for individuals with long-standing cases, some dating back over a decade.

They argue that the prolonged shutdown delays the resolution of legal matters and leaves affected parties uncertain about the future of their cases.

Residents have appealed to government and authorities to act quickly and explore alternative solutions that would allow the courts to resume operations safely, emphasizing the importance of upholding timely access to justice even amid regional conflicts.
