The Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Joseph Simmons Cudjoe has cautioned passengers against politically charged conversations on public transport during this election season.

According to him, such discussions could distract drivers, while driving which can cause accidents.

“While we are focused on promoting safe driving, we also need to consider the political atmosphere. Passengers often engage in political debates, but these discussions can distract drivers, so we encourage a more measured approach”.

Speaking at the launch of the road safety awareness campaign ahead of the December 7 elections and the Christmas festivity, he cautioned drivers against over speeding and overtaking on roads, as the level of road accidents is increasingly rising.

“Drivers must exercise extra caution to ensure the safety of all road users.”

He added that, “Awareness and training have become essential, especially with the holiday season and elections just around the corner,”.

The Western Regional Road Safety Director, Victor Kojo Bilson, reaffirmed the commission’s support to tackle the issue of road safety head-on.

According to him, Public education is key to reducing road accidents, and the GPRTU’s efforts are crucial in addressing the alarming rise in road incidents.
