The former President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong has reassured the public that a National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not scrap the Free Senior High School policy if they come to power. Instead, the NDC aims to review and improve the policy’s implementation, which has been criticized for its shortcomings.

Mr. Frimpong emphasized that the NDC is not against the policy itself, but rather against the poor execution by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. He accused the NPP of spreading fear among parents that the NDC would cancel the policy, merely to garner votes.

He noted that the NPP campaigned on the Free SHS policy in 2016, winning the elections by over a million votes. However, upon implementation, many were disappointed with the policy’s rollout.

Frimpong argued that the NDC’s review would focus on making the policy better for parents and students but will never cancel the policy.
