The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has clarified that the Majority’s absence from today’s parliamentary sitting wasn’t a deliberate boycott. Instead, the caucus was engaged in a meeting that ran longer than expected. This led to Speaker Alban Bagbin adjourning parliament indefinitely.

Agyapong explained in an interview that the majority caucus didn’t intentionally boycott parliament, contrary to the Minority’s claims. He attributed the misunderstanding to the Speaker’s unawareness of their caucus meeting, which went beyond its scheduled time.

“It wasn’t a deliberate boycott, we were having a caucus meeting and our meeting simply ran long. But I think the speaker wasn’t aware, even if he knows he can pretend he didn’t know once there wasn’t an official communication”, he said.

Kennedy Agyapong explained that after the caucus meeting, he entered the chamber only to find that the NDC had taken the Majority’s seats. He promptly informed the Majority Leader and other members, advising them not to enter the chamber.
