Iran backs Lebanon in talks of ceasefire with Israel

Iran has expressed strong support for Lebanon in negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire with Israel. A senior Iranian official, Ali Larijani, confirmed this on Friday, emphasizing Tehran’s desire for an end to the conflict that has significantly impacted its ally, Hezbollah.

Reports suggest that Hezbollah-controlled areas in southern Beirut have faced heavy airstrikes by Israeli forces, accompanied by extensive retaliatory strikes. These developments coincide with growing U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire.

According to two senior Lebanese political sources, the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon recently presented a draft ceasefire proposal to Lebanon’s parliamentary speaker, Nabih Berri. As a key figure endorsed by Hezbollah to negotiate on their behalf, Berri met with Larijani on Friday to discuss the proposal.

Addressing the media, Larijani denied accusations that Iran or its allies were trying to undermine the ceasefire initiative. “We are not looking to sabotage anything. We are seeking solutions to the problems,” he stated, affirming Iran’s commitment to supporting peace efforts.
