President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned a globally standardized interchange at the Flowerpot intersection along the Spintex Road in Accra.

The president who was warmly welcomed by constituents of Ayawaso West Wuogon expressed his immense delight as guest of honor at the commissioning. He recalled the state of roads that lead to Spintex being commuted by approximately 5,000 vehicles per hour during rush hours. The interchange, he said will enhance mobility and efficient movement along the Boundary Road, Spintex Road and Burma Camp by pass corridors. “Before today the flowerpot roundabout faced overwhelming traffic often burdened with up to some 5,000 vehicles per hour during peak times.”

The two-tier structured interchange according to the president follows a series of nationwide road projects that have equally seen completion and have enhanced road network – some of which include the Pokuase Interchange, Tema Motorway Interchange Phase 1 and Obetsebi Interchange Phase 1.

President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Roads and Highways and its Department of Urban Roads under the leadership of its minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye for the impeccable job and numerous efforts that have been invested from initiation to the project’s completion.

“The progress you see today is a product of strategic, focused leadership and the unwavering dedication of countless individuals. I commend the Ministry of Roads and Highways and its Department of the Urban Roads under the dynamic leadership of its Minister the honorable Francis Asenso-Boakye and of his Predecessor Honorable Kwasi Amoako Atta and the many contractors that have worked hard into making this project a reality.”

Ghanaians were urged by the president to see the flowerpot interchange as part of the vision of the Akufo-Addo government to transform and expand the infrastructural network of the nation.

Additionally, he said that the road project is a legacy to future generations and must be regarded as an asset – allocating a collective duty to all Ghanaians to safeguard it to duly serve its purpose. “We are building a new Ghana one where roads, bridges, schools and hospitals write the symbols of a nation that works for everyone; I call on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the newly established National Roads Authority, traditional rulers, commuters and indeed all Ghanaians to join hands in safeguarding this asset for the long-term.”

The Flowerpot Interchange constructed by Ms. China Railway No. 5 Engineering Gh Ltd and supervised by Ms. Deoke Consult Ltd. consists of an 802m of dual carriageway of the viaduct with asphaltic concreting surfacing, 140m of ramp constructed from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills, 80m of ramp constructed from the viaduct onto the motorway towards Tema, a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, an additional 200m exit road from Giffard Road Interchange, a mural of artworks around the flowerpot roundabout and approaches, pedestrian walkways and road furniture.
