The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a stern warning to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, cautioning that any attempt to incite violence ahead of the December polls will have dire consequences. According to Gyamfi, Abronye “won’t live to see the aftermath of this year’s election” if he engages in such actions.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the NDC’s headquarters in Accra, Sammy Gyamfi referenced the 2020 elections, where a teacher trainee and evangelist was tragically stabbed to death by alleged NPP vigilantes in Banda. Despite the severity of the crime, he noted, the perpetrators remain at large and unpunished.

He alleged that Abronye recently visited Banda, the site of the 2020 killing and made inflammatory statements, claiming that this year’s elections would witness more deaths than those seen in Techiman during the previous polls. In response, Gyamfi issued a direct warning, stating that Abronye would face the consequences of any “silly” actions.

“Someone like Abronye goes to Banda, the very place the young man was murdered, not too long ago. He goes to that place and he says that in this year’s election more people will be murdered than we saw at Techiman. But I have news for him, if he tries anything silly he will not live to see the aftermath of this year’s election”, he said.

He further expressed concern over recent developments in Banda, including the transfer of the police commander and the Electoral Commission’s district officer, moves he claimed were orchestrated by the NPP.

Gyamfi emphasized that the NDC is committed to ensuring that no lives are lost during this year’s elections and vowed to prevent any acts of violence.
