A 24 year old man identified as Michael Ofori popularly known as Sammy has been remanded by the Weija circuit Court into police custody for causing damage and stealing fuses belonging to the Electricity company of Ghana.

The accused was charged with causing unlawful damage and stealing, making two counts.

During the court proceedings presided over by Mr. Joshua Caleb Abaidoo, the accused pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage but not stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Police Inspector Joseph Barabu, on November 15, 2024, the complainant, Mohammed Ibrahim saw the accused around an ECG transformer and distribution panel at Ayigbe town removing fuses from the panel with pliers.

Inspector Joseph Barabu further explained to the court that the accused upon spotting the complainant, left the scene leaving his tools behind.

The complainant informed officials of ECG at Bortianor and gave them the tools the accused person left behind.

The accused was arrested by the Weija police the next day. He confessed to the crime adding that he removed a total of 12 fuses from the distribution panel.

He also led the police to some installation centres he had stolen fuses from.

The case has been adjourned to November 27, 2024.
