In a landmark launch of its 25th anniversary celebration and the 6th Corporate Governance Excellence Awards, the Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh) has conferred its most prestigious accolade, the Director of the Year award, on Professor Douglas Boateng.

This honour recognizes his exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication to accountability, and relentless commitment to societal advancement. A visionary leader, Professor Boateng embodies the transformative power of ethical governance, reflecting the core values IoD-Gh has championed for a quarter-century: integrity, service, and excellence.

Rev. (Mrs.) Angela Carmen Appiah, President of IoD-Gh, applauded Professor Boateng’s remarkable contributions. “Professor Boateng epitomizes leadership by example. His steadfast commitment to ethical governance, accountability, and service sets an unparalleled standard. This award is a testament to his ability to inspire transformative change within organizations and society,” she said.

Upon receiving the award, Professor Boateng shared his heartfelt gratitude and vision for leadership and governance.

“This award, especially during the 6th Corporate Governance Excellence Awards and launch of the IoD-Gh’s 25th anniversary celebrations, is both a profound honour and a significant responsibility. It reinforces the shared duty we have as leaders to build a better future for generations to come. Governance is not merely about policies; it is about creating value, fostering trust, and serving with purpose. Leadership is not about individual achievements but about collective progress and leaving a legacy of service and excellence,” he said.

Professor Douglas Boateng, a Chartered Industrial Engineer, is a Fellow of IoD-Gh and a Chartered Director and Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Institute of Directors, achieving the distinction of being one of the youngest admitted in 1994. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Supply Chain Management and Industrialisation at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) and holds the esteemed title of Africa’s first-ever Professor Extraordinaire in Supply Chain Governance and Management. Through PanAvest International and Partners, a quasi-network organization, he continues to mentor and coach some of Africa’s most influential CEOs, policymakers, and emerging political leaders.

A prolific thought leader, Professor Boateng is the author of several influential works, including the ground-breaking “Perspectives on Boardroom Governance”, which was recently launched by Ghana’s Honourable Minister for Finance; Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam. He is also the founder and scribe of NyansaKasa (Words of Wisdom), a platform that reaches over one million daily readers worldwide, and the founder and chairman of the MyFuture, YourFuture, OurFuture Foundation (MYO Global), a global initiative dedicated to empowering the next generation for a sustainable future.

Through his pioneering work in strategic sourcing, industrialisation, supply chain management, and governance, Professor Boateng has redefined C-suite thinking and boardroom practices, inspiring transformative change across Africa and beyond. His leadership reflects inclusiveness, a deep commitment to serving others, and a vision of sustainability and equity for all.

This recognition follows Professor Boateng’s leadership as Convenor of the inaugural Boardroom Governance Summit, the largest gathering of C-suite executives in Ghana and across Africa. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), and IoD-Gh, the summit underscored governance as the foundation for building resilient organizations and driving sustainable development for the common good.

Professor Boateng’s lifetime of contributions has earned him numerous accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from HP for his ground-breaking work in global supply chain excellence. The Director of the Year award is a testament to his enduring commitment to leadership, accountability, and mentoring future leaders.
