Former President of Ghana and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has issued a direct appeal to security personnel and journalists as they prepare to participate in the special voting exercise today, December 2, 2024.

The special voting, an essential pre-election activity, allows key groups such as security services, electoral commission staff, and journalists to cast their votes ahead of the general population.

Addressing the electorate, Mr. Mahama acknowledged the pivotal role of the police, immigration, fire, and prison services, military, customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and intelligence agencies in safeguarding the country. He also recognized the efforts of journalists, whose work ensures the free flow of information and strengthens democracy.

He emphasized the sacrifices made by security personnel and media practitioners, highlighting their dedication to maintaining peace, protecting citizens, and keeping the public informed. He assured them of the NDC’s commitment to improving their working conditions, providing necessary resources, and fostering an environment where their roles are respected and supported.

He outlined key policy initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges facing Ghanaians. He pledged to implement a 24-hour economy initiative to create decent and well-paying jobs for the youth, women, and citizens at large. Additionally, he proposed the establishment of a women’s development bank to provide affordable loans to female entrepreneurs, traders, and widows.

Highlighting the NDC’s stance on governance, Mr. Mahama assured voters of a lean administration with no more than 60 ministers. He reiterated his commitment to tackling corruption through strict enforcement of anti-corruption laws, prosecution of offenders, and recovery of misappropriated funds.

He criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as mismanagement of the economy, citing unprecedented hardships and a reliance on external debt forgiveness. He called for change, asserting that the NDC’s policies would steer the country in the right direction, restore economic stability, and rebuild trust in leadership.

Mr. Mahama urged security personnel and journalists to make their voices heard by voting for the NDC.
