The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana will conduct special voting today, Thursday, December 5, 2024, in the Eastern and Western regions, ahead of the general elections on December 7.

This follows the rescheduling of the exercise, originally planned for Monday, December 2, 2024. The postponement was announced during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Sunday, December 1, after a defaced ballot paper intended for destruction was found outside the Checkpoint Printing House, raising concerns about ballot integrity.

While no issues were detected with the Western Region’s materials, the printing press responsible for the Eastern Region’s ballots also handled those for the Western Region. As a precautionary measure, the EC recalled and reprinted ballot papers for both regions.

EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa assured stakeholders that every necessary measure had been implemented to maintain the integrity and transparency of the process. The reprinted materials were delivered on Wednesday, December 4, ensuring readiness for today’s special voting.

The EC has reiterated its commitment to a free, fair, and credible election and urged participants to adhere to voting guidelines and maintain peace throughout the exercise.
