President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that the lack of 101 district Hospitals in Ghana compelled his administration to introduce the Agenda 111 initiative.

According to him, the Presidential advisor on health, Dr. Nsia Asare, in collaboration with the ministry of health and the Ghana health service conducted a research which indicated that 101 districts out of 261 do not have district Hospitals and there was the need to bring up such initiative to combat health related issues during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Speaking during the commissioning of Atwima Kwanwoma Municipal Hospital at Trede in the Ashanti Region under the Agenda 111 initiative today, Thursday December 5, 2024 the President noted that the newly created regions should also have regional hospitals and for that matter those regions had to be considered. The Western Regional Hospital at Effia Nkwanta he said needed to be equipped due to its deplorable state.

“Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the psychiatric hospitals too needed to be put up in the Northern belt, Middle belt and the coastal belt. If we add these three hospitals to the 109 hospitals needed to be built across the nation, the number now becomes 111 and that is the origin of agenda 111”, he said.

The President expressed his profound gratitude to Dr. Nsia Asare, Presidential advisor on health, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, Director general of the Ghana health service, Chief of Staff, Mad. Akosua Frema Osei Opare and agenda 111 project coordinator, Kwabena Nyarko for their vital role played in bringing this initiative supervised by the office of the President.
