The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has provided financial relief to the family of three-year-old Patnam Kantam, a boy diagnosed with a hole in the heart.

She donated $7,500 to fully cover the cost of his surgery at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Additionally, she presented GHC5,000 to the boy’s parents to support his post-surgery care and upkeep.

Patnam has been on admission at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, with his family struggling to raise funds for the life-saving procedure. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s intervention has ensured the boy can now undergo the necessary surgery to correct his condition.

The donation was made in person at the hospital, where she presented a cheque and cash to the family. She also commended the medical staff for their professionalism and dedication, acknowledging the critical role they play in patient care.

The Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, lauded the former education minister for her generosity and personal involvement, highlighting the rarity of such acts of compassion. He assured that plans are underway to schedule the boy’s surgery soon.

Patnam’s father, Mr. Abdul Majeed Kantam, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for her timely intervention, describing it as a life-changing gesture for his family.
