The Electoral Commission of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity in the ongoing elections, with special arrangements made to accommodate persons with disability (PWDs) and other vulnerable groups.

During the second media briefing, Director of Electoral Services Mr. Benjamin Bannor-Bioh stated that measures which include the provision of tactile jackets for visually impaired voters and preferential treatment are in place at polling stations. These efforts he said are aimed at ensuring that all eligible voters can participate seamlessly.

According to him, security has been heightened at all polling centers to maintain order and prevent disruptions. He stressed that any individual attempting to breach the peace or interfere with the process will face strict legal consequences and urged the public to continue to adhere to electoral rules and regulations to ensure a smooth exercise.

He noted that election officials are performing their duties professionally, and any lapses will be addressed promptly.

He reiterated the commission’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct, emphasizing that any official found compromising the process will face the full rigors of the law.

Mr. Bannor-Bioh noted that as of 12 noon, 30% of polling centers had recorded voter turnouts exceeding 60%, while 40% reported turnout between 40% and 50%. Another registered turnout of approximately 30%. The commission expressed satisfaction with the turnout so far and encouraged citizens to continue voting.

He added that Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) at all polling stations are fully functional following the resolution of initial challenges. No further malfunctions have been reported, ensuring a seamless verification process.

He also commended party agents for largely adhering to guidelines, with the commission reminding them of their role as observers. They have been advised to report any concerns to presiding officers for immediate resolution. Misconduct by party agents will not be tolerated, and violators may be removed from polling stations.

The commission has also established a toll-free hotline, 080303434, to address public inquiries and provide necessary assistance.
