President Mahama vows to boost Ghana’s food self-sufficiency amid USAID suspension

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has officially declared the results of the 2024 presidential election, announcing John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as President-elect.

According to the Chairperson of the Commission, Madam Jane Mensah, results from 267 out of 276 constituencies show that Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes cast. His closest contender, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61% out of 11, 430, 531 vote casts

The announcement follows days of tension and anticipation as Ghanaians waited for the final verdict. The total voter turnout was reported at 60.9%, with 11, 430, 531 valid votes cast out of the 18, 774, 159 registered voters.

Supporters of the NDC have erupted in celebration nationwide, while Mahama is expected to address the nation today at 7pm

This marks a significant chapter in Ghana’s democratic journey, further solidifying the nation’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
