FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Barker Vormawor, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to honor his campaign pledge to drop charges against Democracy Hub protesters and other politically charged cases.

According to Vormawor, the continued delays in the legal process reflect a system that prioritizes political persecution over justice and accountability.

He criticized the state for using adjournments and procedural delays as tactics to suppress dissent, describing such actions as a violation of constitutional principles. Barker Vormawor emphasized that every accused individual is entitled to a fair trial and adequate resources to prepare a defense, yet the state’s actions undermine these rights.

He also pointed out that the charges against Democracy Hub protesters and other activists are politically motivated and should have been dropped long ago. He referenced Mr. Mahama’s campaign promise to issue a nolle prosequi to dismiss these cases, including the treason charges brought against.

He indicated that protesters and activists are growing increasingly impatient and hinted at potential boycotts of the judicial process if the charges are not addressed by February 17, 2025.

He also reiterated plans to demand a parliamentary inquiry into police misconduct during protests. He highlighted the need for justice, including compensation for individuals whose rights were violated during the demonstrations. While he acknowledged the importance of engaging with the state, he stressed that patience with the current approach has run out, and stronger action may be necessary to hold authorities accountable.
