Global Citizen has announced the relocation of its Move Afrika campaign, initially set to be hosted in Accra, Ghana, to Rwanda and Nigeria.

Following a successful event in December 2022, where global superstars like Usher delivered stunning performances amidst the vibrant energy and camaraderie of Ghanaians, Global Citizen had planned to launch its Move Afrika campaign in Accra.

However, the social change advocates announced on their official X page that Ghana will not be hosting the concert as originally planned due to insufficient time to prepare a viable show. “While we had hoped to bring the Move Afrika Tour to Ghana this year, the timeline needed to make an Accra show viable was not possible for this next tour.”

This year’s tour, which will be headlined by renowned neo-soul singer John Legend, will instead take place in Kigali, Rwanda, and Lagos, Nigeria.

The Global Citizen team assured Ghanaians that efforts are underway to bring the Move Afrika tour to Accra soon. “We remain committed to Ghana and its people and look forward to bringing Move Afrika to Accra as soon as possible.”

The Global Citizen Festival, which began in 2012 in New York, has a long-standing legacy of mobilizing people to take action against extreme poverty. Over the years, the festival has evolved to align closely with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to eradicate global poverty by 2030.
