The Electoral Commission of Ghana has raised concern about inadequate security for its personnel during and after the December 2024 elections.

According to the Commission, some of its members were attacked by party supporters, even in the presence of security officers who were outnumbered and unable to protect EC staff or enable them to carry out their duties effectively.

Speaking at an event organized by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the Electoral Commission, called on stakeholders to deliberate on enhancing security measures for EC personnel and collation centers.

The event also featured the presentation of findings on incidents from the 2024 elections.

“So we need to also talk about the security of the processes. Because if you don’t have security, no matter how well you prepare for it, it will come to nought.

“…Now no part of the collation centre is safe because they can come in at any time. The commission had wanted to meet today to have a look at if it can re-collate… I don’t think collating results where people know the results from the polling station should be something that we should be fighting over. So, please, we all need to think around it,’ he said.
