The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent electoral loss as monumental.
Speaking during parliamentary proceedings, Mr. Agbodza noted that losing an election in itself is not unusual, but the extent of the NPP’s defeat reflected deeper issues that require introspection.
According to him, the NPP’s loss stemmed from its governance posture and the impact of its policies on Ghanaians. He pointed to widespread job losses, the closure of businesses, and hardships faced by ordinary citizens under the NPP’s administration. “Once losing an election is nothing, your loss has been monumental. Have you reflected on that?” Mr. Agbodza asked the majority leader.
In a pointed remark directed at the Majority Leader, Mr. Agbodza quipped that he was calling him “Majority Leader” for the first time in months, humorously stating that he wanted to grant him the title so he could “go home with it.” He mocked the NPP’s transition into the minority, noting that the Majority Leader had previously deemed it spiritually unwise to be referred to as a Minority Leader. However, he pointed out that, given the current reality, the Majority Leader is now a “minority leader in transition.” Mr. Agbodza alleged that the Majority Leader was even lobbying his party for the Minority Leader position, questioning if such a move was no longer against his spiritual beliefs.
He urged the soon to be former majority to reflect on their governance and election strategy, emphasizing that their monumental loss was a result of their dismissive approach to constructive criticisms.
“Your posture is why you lost. Everything we told you, you dismissed because you were in government. That is why the loss was monumental,” Mr. Agbodza emphasized.
He further accused the NPP of weaponizing state institutions to suppress citizens. “You use institutions to bust against everything, and Ghanaians have punished you for it. Yet, you haven’t learned your lessons,” he stated.
