The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced an expansion of its post-election observation efforts to address challenges related to the declaration of some parliamentary results.

A statement released by CODEO on Tuesday , December 24, noted that this initiative, running from December 22, 2024, to January 23, 2025, aims to promote transparency, accountability, and stability in the post-election period.

CODEO said it has recruited, trained, and deployed 20 citizen observers nationwide to monitor the activities of key stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties, the judiciary, security agencies, and civil society organisations (CSOs). These observers will focus on electoral disputes, the conduct of political actors, and compliance with constitutional processes as the country prepares for the swearing-in of the President-elect on January 7, 2025.

The observation exercise is part of CODEO’s broader election monitoring process, which spans pre-election, election day, and post-election phases. It aims to ensure the electoral environment remains conducive to peace, stability, and national unity.

In response to disputes over the declaration of results in certain parliamentary constituencies, CODEO has urged stakeholders to uphold the rule of law and resolve conflicts through legitimate means.
