The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a judicial review application filed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) today, December 27, 2024.
The application challenges a High Court ruling from December 20, which instructed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate parliamentary election results in nine disputed constituencies. This directive followed a mandamus application filed by New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates in the affected areas, compelling the EC to fulfil its constitutional duty by verifying and re-collating results.
The EC has already completed the re-collation in seven out of the nine constituencies, leaving Dome/Kwabenya and Ablekuma North outstanding. However, the NDC has strongly opposed the High Court’s decision and the subsequent re-collation, describing it as unlawful and without merit.
The party argues that the court exceeded its jurisdiction, compromising transparency, fairness, and the integrity of the electoral process.
