The Catholic Diocese of Jasikan in the Oti Region is appealing to the Inspector General of Police to speed up investigations into the three Catholic priests who were allegedly assaulted in Nkwanta South on December 11 2024.

The three Catholic priests stationed at St. Michael’s Parish in Kpasa were Frs. Robinson Melkis, Martin George and Henry Jacob.

The priests were allegedly assaulted on their way to Chiaso to work on a land they had acquired for the construction of a formation House.

In their open letter to the IGP signed by Bishop Gabriel Mantey, the Diocese expressed concern over the incident citing that up to date, the executors of the assault are still walking freely with no arrest despite the clear video evidence.

“We wish to remind the IGP who has the power to cause the arrest of the perpetrators of this odious crime that he seems to be delaying the process. We ask for justice now because justice delayed is justice denied”.

They also asked if the Ghana Police service headed by the IGP is not aware of the disgraceful and possible sour relationship that could develop between India and the Ghana Government if the culprits are not arrested and brought to justice.

However, they expressed their profound gratitude to the IGP for giving medical attention to Fr. Henry Jacob who lost the sense of hearing in the left ear due to the assault.

“We take this opportunity to reiterate a point already expressed in our press statement, dated December 12, 2024 that successive governments and election winning parties put effective mechanisms in place to check and bring an end to violence and needless attacks on citizens and legal residents after elections. This canker seems to be unfortunately becoming a disgraceful unwritten law in Ghana”, part of the statement said.
