President John Dramani Mahama has underscored the critical importance of justice and peace in shaping the future of the nation.

Speaking at the 92nd Annual Jalsa (Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Pomadze in the Central Region on Thursday, January 9, 2025, the former president emphasized that justice is a fundamental pillar of national aspirations, guided by the principles outlined in the Holy Quran. Mahama stated that the call to uphold justice, even against one’s own interests, is a powerful mandate that highlights the need for impartiality and fairness in governance.

Speaking on the theme for the convention, “Justice and Peace; The Essential Ingredient for National Development,” he stressed that justice must not only be done but must be visible, accessible, and experienced by all citizens, serving as a moral compass to guide every decision, law, and interaction within the country.

He reiterated the commitment of the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to strengthening the country’s justice system. President Mahama outlined his government’s focus on ensuring judicial independence and addressing systemic inequalities that have long persisted. He assured Ghanaians that the administration would work tirelessly to ensure that every citizen, regardless of their status or background, is treated with dignity and given equal protection under the law.

He stressed the stalled constitutional review process and emphasized the need to move forward with the review to address the evolving needs of the nation. He revealed plans to soon establish a committee tasked with organizing a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference. This initiative aims to create a platform for broad consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments, ensuring that the changes reflect the collective aspirations of the people.

He also touched on the essential role of peace in national development, describing it as a divine blessing that requires a concerted effort to maintain. Citing the teachings of Prophet Mohammed, he reminded the audience that peace is the foundation upon which communities prosper. In line with this, Mahama affirmed that his government would prioritize dialogue over unilateral decisions and work towards building consensus as the nation moves forward together. He expressed the government’s commitment to encouraging religious harmony and engaging leaders from all faiths to foster mutual understanding.
