Players from Ghana’s historic 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup-winning squad have been invited by SAS Finance Group to claim their matured investment cheques.

The financial institution formally notified the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding the maturity of the 15-year investment made on behalf of the team following their remarkable triumph in Egypt.

In 2009, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) allocated a total of GHS 210,000 as an investment package for the 21 players called up for the tournament by head coach Sellas Tetteh. Each player was allotted GHS 10,000, which was invested on their behalf.

SAS Finance Group confirmed in a statement:
“This investment has matured after 15 years, and the players can now collect their cheques from the SAS Office in Accra, starting from January 8, 2025.”

To claim their cheques, players must provide a valid Ghana Card for identification. Alternatively, if a player is unable to collect their cheque personally, they can authorize a representative with a notarized Power of Attorney.

In addition to the financial returns, the investment package included an annual insurance cover that provided life and health-related benefits for each player over the 15-year period.

Ghana’s U-20 World Cup victory in 2009 remains the country’s only triumph at that level. Below is the list of players who are beneficiaries of this investment:
