Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the National Food Suppliers Association, Kwaku Amedume, has disclosed that his association is yet to supply food stuff to senior high schools since schools resumed this academic year.

He revealed that, although they haven’t stopped supplying food to secondary schools they haven’t done so yet due to the change in government.

He indicated that, things are different now and they are waiting on the new government to appoint a minister of education.

“Due to this, procurement is currently slow because, we don’t know what plans the new government has with regards to food delivery in the country” he said in an interview with Sefah Danquah on Happy 98.9FM’s Happy Morning Show.

Kwaku Amedume indicated that until the group meets with the newly elected government, they will not supply food to any senior high schools in the country.

“We have the food stuff available but it will only be delivered after our meeting with the current government. If they can give us a reasonable price for our foodstuff we will deliver the food to the schools” he emphasized.

This development comes at a time where CHASS has raised concerns over food shortages in schools and suggested that parents send their children to school with food when school resumes.

President John Mahama on the other hand, has taken decisive steps to tackle the growing food shortages affecting Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide by ordering the Chief of Staff to work with the Ghana Education Service to distribute food that is currently held in warehouses in Tema to Senior High Schools.

The purpose is to ease the strain on both parents and school authorities.
