A former Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections to a weakened internal structure and a lack of cohesion.

Mr. Crabbe identified discontent among party members as a major factor contributing to the NPP’s challenges, emphasizing that the party’s inability to align its achievements in government with the aspirations of its grassroot members has undermined loyalty and morale.

“If somebody does not believe that whatever the party gains in government will benefit him or her, there is no way they will wake up in the morning and go and sacrifice, they must believe that there is something in it for them,” he said.

He also criticized the growing disconnect between the party’s leadership and its base, which he believes further eroded unity and trust within the organization.

The NPP lost both the presidential race and a significant number of parliamentary seats to the National Democratic Congress in the December 7, 2024, general elections. The party now holds only 88 seats in parliament.
