President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Abambire Bawa, as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

The appointment was announced in a statement from the Office of the President, dated January 17, 2025. Bawa will lead the GNPC, which is tasked with promoting the exploration, development, and production of petroleum resources to advance Ghana’s economic growth.

The statement cited Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L.64), as the legal basis for the appointment.
