Obuasi clash: Deaths of nine Ghanaians is a national concern; not just an NDC issue – Richard Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has expressed grave concern over recent acts of vandalism and violence reportedly incited by grassroot members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

These incidents, which include the destruction of state property and loss of lives, have been observed across the nation following the declaration of the NDC as winners of the 2024 Presidential elections.

Speaking at a press conference today at the NPP headquarters, Mr. Ahiagbah highlighted the recent Obuasi clash, which claimed nine lives, as the latest and most alarming of these violent acts.

He emphasized that, while the deceased were identified as members of the NDC, their deaths go beyond party lines and should be regarded as a national tragedy. “These people were NDC members. So it only makes sense to say that it should be a problem for the NDC and not the NPP. However, they are Ghanaians, and irrespective of their party, their deaths should not be seen as a loss for the party but rather a loss for us all as Ghanaians,” he stated.

Mr. Ahiagbah also called on the NDC leadership and President John Dramani Mahama to take immediate action to curb post-election violence. “The NDC leadership and President John Mahama have failed as leaders. The NDC must take responsibility for the Obuasi deaths; it is their negligence that has led to these deaths, which could have been avoided,”
