The Minister-Designate for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has called on unqualified individuals to refrain from seeking entry into the country’s security services.

Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, January 28, Dr. Omane Boamah stressed the need to uphold strict recruitment standards, particularly concerning medical fitness.

He highlighted cases where recruits have tragically died on their first day at the training depot due to underlying health issues, noting that some had bypassed proper procedures to gain admission.

Dr. Omane Boamah assured the committee that, if approved, he would prioritize maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process.

“If you have a heart condition, and the system is circumvented and you are enlisted or recruited, you are just jeopardising your life. And so looking at it purely from the medical point of view, I will be the first person to advise you, if you genuinely don’t qualify don’t attempt it,” he said.
