Minorty Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has renewed calls for the removal of the Clerk of the Appointments Committee, accusing her of bias and unprofessional conduct.

Addressing the press in Parliament today, he alleged that the clerk has consistently acted in a manner that undermines the minority and aligns with describing it as evidence of her political bias. He insisted that her actions compromise the neutrality expected of parliamentary service staff and called for her resignation if she intends to continue engaging in partisan activities.

He further alleged that the clerk had deliberately stalled processes during the vetting of nominated judges. He recounted that while his deputy, then acting as Chair of the Committee, had signed off on the vetting reports, the clerk refused to do the same until receiving approval from the then Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. Afenyo-Markin indicated that efforts were made to resolve the situation internally, including urging the clerk to consult with the Minority Leader, but the delays persisted.

Describing the situation as unacceptable, he reiterated that the Minority would not tolerate any attempts to frustrate their work. He stressed that parliamentary staff must remain professional and neutral, warning that if the clerk continues on this path, steps will be taken to ensure she is removed from the Appointments Committee.
