Former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has denied reports that he was the one who made derogatory comments about the late former president Jerry John Rawlings on the floor of Parliament.

During a Parliamentary proceeding on the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, a voice from the Minority side was heard shouting a deeply derogatory remark at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, referring to her as the “daughter of a murderer” and ordering her to sit down.

Another unknown MP believed to be on the Minority side followed up, claiming, “But there is evidence that her father killed people.”

Reacting to these comments that have been attributed to him, Samuel Abu Jinapor has stated emphatically that he was not the one who made such derogatory comments and will never do so because he had a very good relationship with the late Jerry John Rawlings.

“The general public is kindly advised to totally disregard the suggestion that I made unsavory comments about Hon. Dr. Zanetor Rawlings while she was on her feet on the floor of Parliament contributing to a statement. For the record, the said allegation is absolutely false.”

“I have utmost respect for Former President Jerry John Rawlings, his family and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings in particular. While he was alive, President Rawlings was someone who took a great likening and interest in me as a young politician and I had great respect for him as a Ghanaian Statesman,” part of his statement sighted by Happy News read.

He added that it is not in his nature to denigrate people who have served the country because he believes in intellectual discourse and will never resort to insults.

“I have and will not denigrate the Rawlings’s in any form or shape and any Ghanaian for that matter. That is not in my nature. I have always believed in decent debates and intellectual discourse in Ghanaian public life and Parliament especially, devoid of insults and character assassination!”
