President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Fisheries Minister, Emelia Arthur, to collaborate with the Finance Minister to secure funding for the completion of the Anomabu Fisheries College in the Central Region, which has been long-abandoned.

The project, initially launched by the NDC government in 2011, remained incomplete after Mahama left office. Located in Anomabu, the facility includes lecture theatres, a principal’s bungalow, fish ponds, boreholes, and a water pumping station. It was designed to accommodate 300 students and aims to promote sustainable fishing practices and aquaculture education in the country.

During his Thank You tour of the Central Region on Thursday, February 6, President Mahama stressed the importance of completing the project. He pointed out that the remaining work was minimal, with only the installation of furniture, teaching materials, and campus roadwork needed before the facility can welcome students.

Mahama reiterated the government’s commitment to completing abandoned projects, regardless of which party initiated them. He emphasized that the project was close to completion and that the Finance Minister would present a new budget to Parliament in March, which would include funds for the project.

He instructed the Fisheries Minister to take swift action and work with the Finance Minister to ensure the necessary funds are allocated to finish the first phase of the project, after which attention will turn to phase two. Both the Fisheries and Finance Ministers are expected to prioritize the funding to ensure the project is completed on time.
