Educationist, Dr. Daniel Osabutey has expressed his support for the reintroduction of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in public schools.

He, however, emphasized the need for clear guidelines to define the boundaries of responsibilities between parents and teachers to prevent conflicts.

Speaking on the Happy Morning Show with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Tuesday, February 18, Dr. Osabutey noted that some strong Parents Associations (PA) tend to micromanage schools if head teachers fail to assert their authority.

He warned that such situations could lead to unnecessary interference in school operations.

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed plans to reintroduce Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) into the management structure of public schools as part of efforts to enhance the quality of education in the country.

This initiative according to him, seeks to foster collaboration between parents, teachers, and educational institutions to produce well-rounded human capital for national development.

The decision to reintroduce PTAs is aimed at creating a platform for parents and teachers to work closely to address challenges in schools and improve educational outcomes.

Dr. Osabutey suggested that the PTA’s role be streamlined to ensure that parents serve as an advisory body without overstepping into the implementation of school policies.

He stressed that while parents’ input is valuable in management decisions, the actual execution of policies should remain the responsibility of teachers and school authorities.

According to him, such measures would help avoid conflicts between parents’ expectations and the schools’ operational mandates, fostering a harmonious working relationship between all stakeholders.
