Government in partnership with the British High Commission, has launched the National Education Forum to critically analyze the current education system and propose solutions to address existing gaps.

The forum, taking place today in Ho, Volta Region, has brought together experts from Ghana’s education sector, including executives from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). The discussions aim to reset Ghana’s education system through expert professional advice.

Minister for Education, Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu, stated that this initiative fulfills a promise made by President John Dramani Mahama during his campaign. As part of his Reset Ghana agenda, President Mahama pledged to establish a National Education Committee to develop a theme and sub-themes that will guide stakeholder engagement on the state of formal education in Ghana.

“Today’s educational forum is in fulfillment of one such promise that he will examine and rely on your expert professional advice; he doesn’t seem to say that he has the answers. So today’s forum is for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to hear from you—the experts and professionals—where are we on the state of education in Ghana.”

The National Education Forum will be overseen by an eight-member committee appointed by President Mahama. It will be chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. George K. T. Oduro. Other members include Prof. Goski Alabi, Prof. Rosemary Bosu, Samuel Awuku, Ph.D., and Prof. Smile Dzisi. The remaining members are Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
