A renowned private legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, has claimed that Kennedy Agyapong played a role in sabotaging Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, contributing to his defeat in the 2024 presidential election.

Speaking in an interview with Happyghana.com, Mr. Ampaw argued that Dr. Bawumia inherited the challenges and unpopularity of former President Akufo-Addo, making his bid for victory difficult. He lamented that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) failed to present Bawumia positively, instead damaging his image during the presidential primaries. He also noted that there was a strong public desire for change.

Mr. Ampaw further asserted that Bawumia’s 42% vote share came largely from floating voters, as many NPP supporters did not participate in the election. He highlighted that President John Mahama secured only an additional 100,000 votes compared to his 2020 performance.

He warned that if the NPP intends to remain in opposition, they should nominate Kennedy Agyapong as their candidate for the 2028 election, arguing that despite Agyapong’s popularity, he would struggle in a general election.
