Charles Osei Asibey was recognized for his leadership and stellar contributions at the 20th anniversary celebration of Happy FM’s Valentine Mass Wedding held at Bethel Baptist on February 14, 2025. The citation honours his significant contribution to this transformative initiative that, over the past two decades, has brought together more than 800 couples.

Happy FM’s Valentine Mass Wedding is a community investment initiative by Happy 98.9 FM where, with an insignificant commitment fee from couples, the station organizes all aspects of their wedding. This comprehensive package includes costumes, honey moon accommodations, counselling services, legal marriage registration, reception, chauffeur driving luxury vehicles, and more.

At the ceremony, Asibey was honoured alongside five other long-standing partners and individuals who have been instrumental to the program’s success over the two decades:
– Mrs. Ellen Akosua Gyamerah-Akofor, who provided counselling to the couples over a decade.
– Aliquah Home of Fashion, who provided bridal wear over a decade.
– Cake Tekniks; the official cake partner over a decade.
– 2nd Image International; official grooming and makeup partner over a decade.
– Rev. Canon Dr. Selwyn Sylvanus Adamah Okine ; Officiating Minister for several years.

These dedicated individuals and corporates have contributed to the mass wedding initiative for periods ranging from ten to twenty years, demonstrating remarkable commitment to the initiative’s vision.

In his remarks, Asibey expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, saying, “This initiative has always been close to my heart. Even after leaving my position as Head of Happy FM, I remain committed to supporting this noble cause that strengthens the foundation of our society – marriage.”

He shared a touching story about his ambitious dream to have 50 couples walk down the aisle together in 2011 and how reaching achieving the target brought him to tears at the Accra International Conference Centre. “Seeing so many couples able to formalize their unions with dignity when they might not have had the means to do so individually remains one of my proudest achievements,” Asibey remarked.

Beyond his media achievements, Asibey has become a prominent figure in sports administration, currently serving as President of the Africa Armwrestling Federation, Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation, Founder and President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, and General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG). He previously served as Communications Director for the Ghana Olympic Committee, further demonstrating his commitment to advancing sports in Ghana.
