LGSWU distances Itself from CLOGSAG Strike

The Local Government Service Workers’ Union (LGSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has officially distanced itself from the ongoing strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), which began on February 20, 2025.

In a statement released by LGSWU, the union emphasized that the current industrial action does not align with the immediate priorities of its members.

They noted, “It is important to recall that in 2022, CLOGSAG filed a suit at the High Court, challenging the appointment of Mrs. Henrietta Lamptey as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry. The High Court is yet to deliver judgment in that case and as a Union, we believe that until its final determination, negotiations and further engagements can help resolve the current concerns raised in the appointment of the Registrar.”

The union underscored its commitment to addressing the pressing needs of its members, particularly the fight for an enhanced salary structure and improved working conditions for staff of the Local Government Service.

“The needs of our members and staff nationwide are clear and urgent,” stated the LGSWU.

Additionally, LGSWU urged its members to focus their efforts on achieving its tangible gains rather than participating in the ongoing strike.

“We will continue to prioritize and put our energies into advocating for an equitable and enhanced salary structure and better working conditions that will benefit every worker under the Local Government Service”.

LGSWU’s statement reiterated its unanimous decision not to join the strike and encouraged its members to conserve and channel their efforts toward more productive battles ahead.

“Together, let us conserve and channel our efforts toward the battles ahead”.
