The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, has described President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address(SONA) as a mere repetition of campaign promises rather than a presentation of concrete actions.

According to him, the address lacked substance, as it was filled with directives and instructions rather than tangible achievements.

He emphasized that at this stage, the president should be implementing policies instead of making promises.

In an interview with Happyghana.com the MP expressed concern over the president’s handling of employment issues, noting that while President Mahama spoke about job creation, he had also dismissed individuals who were already employed.

He questioned how the government intended to tackle unemployment when people who had jobs were being laid off.

He also dismissed the president’s mention of a $10 billion infrastructure push, arguing that it was not a new initiative. He recalled a similar promise made in President Mahama’s first term when sod was cut behind West Hills Mall for the Hope City project, which never materialized.

The Akuapem North MP further criticized the President for failing to address the current state of LGBTQ+ issues in the country, despite the topic being used by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during their campaign.

Additionally, he challenged President Mahama’s claim of having fixed the power crisis, commonly known as ‘dumsor,’ before leaving office in 2017.

He pointed out that during the president’s address, some parts of the country experienced power outages, which contradicted his assertion.

He maintained that while the minority would pray for the president’s success for the sake of all Ghanaians, some of his initial decisions had not been fair to the people.
