In a move that has sent ripples through the Ghanaian basketball community, James Amotoe, one of the nation’s most celebrated basketball talents, has officially signed with United Generations Basketball (UGB), a semi-professional basketball team based in Kigali, Rwanda.

This announcement comes on the heels of a remarkable season that saw Amotoe lead the Spintex Knights to an undefeated record and secure the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Division 1 title in 2023.

A Stellar Career So Far

James Amotoe’s journey in basketball has been nothing short of extraordinary. Earlier this year, Amotoe was instrumental in the Spintex Knights’ dominant performance last season, earning him the Finals MVP award, his second consecutive.  His averages of 20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game during the Road to BAL 2025 Qualifiers further cemented his status as one of Ghana’s premier basketball players.

Amotoe’s ability to perform under pressure and his versatility on the court have made him a fan favorite. His leadership qualities and consistent performances have not only brought success to his teams but have also inspired a new generation of basketball players in Ghana.

The Move to United Generations Basketball

The signing with United Generations Basketball (UGB) is seen as a strategic move for both Amotoe and the club. UGB, a semi-professional basketball team based in Kigali, Rwanda, has been making waves in the African basketball scene since its establishment. The club is known for its commitment to developing talent and competing at high levels, both regionally and internationally.

UGB has participated in several prestigious tournaments, including the Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers, and has built a reputation for nurturing young talent while also attracting experienced players. The addition of James Amotoe is expected to bring a new dynamic to the team, combining his scoring ability, defensive prowess, and playmaking skills.

In a statement released by UGB, the club expressed their excitement about the new signing. “James Amotoe is a player of exceptional talent and character. We are thrilled to have him join our family and look forward to achieving great things together,” the statement read.
