The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has emphasized the need to bridge the digital divide and modernize the educational system to promote digitalization.

According to him, the Ministry of Education is committed to deploying digital tools and systems to enhance quality education and training across all sectors.

Answering questions on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, the Mr. Iddrisu stated that improving access to education for students in rural areas is a priority.

He noted that providing equal learning opportunities, ensuring high-quality and engaging learning content aligned with the national curriculum, and offering effective teacher support are all essential in fostering academic excellence.

According to him, the Ministry, through the Center for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling has introduced two major initiatives aimed at breaking the digital divide in rural schools.

These initiatives are the I-Box and I-Compose Ghana, which function under the Learning Management System (LMS).

He stated that the I-Box is an offline learning management system designed specifically for senior high schools, especially those in remote areas.

It provides access to core and elective subjects, as well as open educational resources.

The system allows students to use educational materials through smart TVs or wireless-enabled computers available in ICT labs, even without internet connection.

He noted that currently, 240 senior high schools across the country, mainly in rural areas, have been equipped with the I-Box system, benefiting over 120,000 students.

He revealed that each participating school receives an I-Box system, a smart screen, and an access point to facilitate learning.
