Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused National Security operatives of stealing valuables, including cash and jewelry, during a raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, on Wednesday, March 19.

According to him, the operation was led by the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat Mr. Richard Jakpa.

He alleged that the operatives took an undisclosed amount of money from Dr. Addison’s bedroom, along with earrings and necklaces belonging to the governor’s wife.

Addressing the media on Thursday, March 20, he described the raid as unlawful and an abuse of authority, calling for immediate action from President John Mahama to address the issue.

He alleged that some GHC10,000, which had been placed on the governor’s bed, could not be accounted for, suggesting that security operatives involved in the raid had taken it.

He also claimed that the missing jewelry further indicated misconduct, raising concerns about the professionalism and accountability of the security forces.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin linked the incident to a similar raid on the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in February 2025, suggesting a troubling pattern of politically motivated security operations.

He called on civil society organizations and human rights groups to speak out against what he described as a growing threat to democratic principles.

He has demanded an independent investigation into the raid and the alleged actions of security personnel.
