The Minority in Parliament has questioned the legality and true motive behind the National Security raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.

They revealed that the National Security Coordinator personally called Dr. Addison to apologize for the operation, using the phone of Richard Jakpa. This, they argue, only deepens concerns about the legitimacy of the raid.

Addressing the press on Monday, March 23, Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip Jerry Shaib Ahmed referenced photographs circulating on social media, showing clear signs of destruction and ransacking.

According to him, these images further fuel suspicions about the nature of the security operation.

The Minority contends that if a court-issued warrant existed, it should have been presented to Dr. Addison before or during the raid. Instead, they claim, brute force was used to overpower his private security, and CCTV cameras were dismantled and taken away.

They argue that such actions undermine lawful enforcement and cast serious doubt on the legitimacy of the operation. According to them, justifying the raid by stating that Dr. Addison had access to legal counsel fails to address the core issue whether the operation was necessary and lawful or a blatant abuse of power meant to intimidate and humiliate.

The Minority further asserted that transparency, a key principle of legal and procedural fairness, was disregarded, raising more skepticism about the raid’s true intent.

They insisted that no amount of legal justification or public relations efforts can change the fact that Dr. Addison’s home was forcibly searched under questionable circumstances.

Reiterating their stance that the raid was politically motivated, the Minority has demanded that those responsible must be held to account.
