The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has raised serious allegations against the former Akufo-Addo administration, accusing it of orchestrating a third-party contract that redirects revenue from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) to a private firm.

Speaking to journalists, Sam George revealed that despite NITA’s infrastructure being used for service provision, the agency’s bank account holds a mere 25 Ghana Cedis, 8 pesewas, while it faces a staggering debt of GH¢813,486,505.89.

He described the situation as a case of “state capture,” highlighting the financial struggles of the agency.

The Minister disclosed that NITA is bound by a contractual agreement with a third-party vendor, which he has summoned for questioning.

He expressed disbelief at the arrangement, stating that revenue generated through NITA’s services is being funneled to the private entity, leaving the agency deprived of its rightful earnings.

Sam George further revealed that he has refused to authorize a payment of nearly four million Ghana Cedis to the third-party company and has referred the matter to the Attorney General for review.

He emphasized his commitment to halting such payments until a clear understanding of the situation is achieved.

“This is the true definition of state capture”, Sam George said vowing to expose the extent of the alleged financial mismanagement within the ministry.

He assured the public that he would present a detailed report to Parliament, shedding light on the “rot” within the ministry.
