One of Ghana’s innovative water brands, Jibu Ghana has unveiled an initiative dubbed “Cooking with Jibu” with the aim of amplifying the need for Ghanaians to use clean water in cooking in their respective homes. The initiative, aside ensuring people cook with clean water which bolsters their health, will also foster the resolve of ridding the environment with plastics.

“One key thing that has come and I keep talking about, and even the new EPA boss talked about is how to discourage the use of single-used plastics and that’s one of the things we seek to achieve with our “Cook with Jibu” campaign”, the Ghana Country Manager of Jibu, Jonathan Zobi, intimated in an interview with the press during the launch of the campaign.

Mr. Zobi argued that a lot of homes are generating a lot of plastic wastes by cooking with sachet water. He shares these plastic wastes are not usually properly disposed or recycled leading to pollution. “According to the report we have only 5% of our plastic waste we generate recycled. That means the remainder 95% find themselves in our drains and other places”, Mr. Zobi explained.

Two cardinal objectives of the “Cooking with Jibu” campaign are one, to promote the use of clean water for cooking which will enhance of the quality of our food cooked in our homes and two, reduced plastic pollution through adopting Jibu’s reusable 20 litre bottles for use in the respective homes of customers.

Stressing on the need for the use of clean water for cooking, Mr. Zobi averred that the quality of water used in cooking has the potential of determining quality or taste of the food one cooks. He challenges the conventional thinking that boiling has the tendency of killing, sometimes harmful bacteria, found in water. He says not all bacteria found in water can be undone through boiling. “It is very critical that the water being used to cook goes through the right filtration system so you take this bacteria and harmful metals out of the water”, he advised.

Jibu, as part of the “Cooking with Jibu” campaign announced huge price discounts, over 50% discount for households interested in being a part of the campaign. This initiative according to Jibu Ghana falls squarely in line with their objective of sustainably impacting communities.

About Jibu
Jibu, Inc is a for-profit social enterprise that prioritizes impact in our communities. Our hybrid approach stimulates responsible economic growth and independence. Through local entrepreneurship we produce safe drinking water as well as supply other essential products like LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) and fortified porridge and sell them at affordable prices in the communities served. While drinking water is our immediate focus, our ultimate goal is to launch a network of independent franchise owners who, with high visibility retail storefronts and proven business acumen, are poised to revolutionize the African landscape while paving the way for developed world resources to become more effectively deployed in emerging markets.

The Jibu ecosystem is made of Jibu, Inc (founding franchisor), Jibu Area Master Franchisors (AMFs), and Jibu Franchisees.
