The Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has called for the arrest of former Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and former Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) boss Samuel Dubik Mahama.

As the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gbande linked his demand to the disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers at the Tema Port.

According to him, the three must be held accountable due to their past roles in ECG’s operations.

In an interview he said, “The Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin now wants to run away from responsibility and it is in the interest of the country for him to be arrested immediately. I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Maham and Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action”.

Last week, Energy Minister John Jinapor revealed that a committee investigating containers at Tema Port upon his assumption of office found that over 1,300 containers were unaccounted for.

He revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the disappearances were orchestrated by a syndicate and had been occurring since 2019.

An intelligence-led operation has so far resulted in the arrest of 10 foreign nationals and four Ghanaians in connection with the missing containers.
