A United Nations aircraft made an emergency landing at Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday April 1, 2025, afternoon following a mechanical malfunction involving its front landing gear, officials confirmed.

The De Havilland Dash 8 (DH8D), operated by the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), was en route to Baidoa when it encountered technical difficulties shortly after departure.

As a result, the pilot initiated a return to Mogadishu, executing a belly landing at 13:28 local time.

The Turkish company managing the airport, Fevori LLC in a statement said, “thankfully, there were no fatalities or serious injuries. All individuals were safely evacuated and provided with medical checks and support on site”.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) confirmed the incident and assured the public that the aircraft sustained minimal damage.

Emergency response teams acted swiftly, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers.

In the aftermath, the airport’s taxiway was temporarily closed to facilitate recovery operations but has since resumed normal operations.

Aviation authorities, in collaboration with the United Nations, have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction.
