A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics suggests a shift in voter preference within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with a new generation of leaders gaining traction over the party’s established figures.

According to the poll results, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang leads the race for NDC leadership with 25.0% of voter support. She is closely followed by the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, who secured 20.7%. The current Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, garnered 12.9%, while North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah polled 9.9% and 9.8%, respectively.

The results indicate a strong push for fresh leadership within the party, with voters leaning towards Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who made history as Ghana’s first female Vice President. Her lead in the poll reflects growing support for her leadership and the possibility of the NDC fielding its first female presidential candidate.

Haruna Iddrisu, a prominent figure in parliamentary politics, remains a formidable contender, while Dr. Ato Forson’s position as the party’s economic spokesperson appears to be resonating with some voters. Okudzeto Ablakwa, known for his vocal stance on national issues, has also gained notable support.

Global InfoAnalytics, which shared the results on Facebook, noted that voters seem to be “deserting the old guards in favor of a new generation of leaders.” This shift could have significant implications for the NDC as it strategizes for the 2028 elections.
